Sri Lanka - Adventure
Route Map 
 Day 1 : Bombay

Arrive Bombay by International flight. Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel.

Afternoon city sightseeing tour visiting Kamla Nehru Park, Hanging Gardens situated on the slopes of Malabar Hill, offering a panoramic view of Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach, Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan, Dhobi Ghat, Gateway of India and drive through the Crawford Market, Marine Drive and Flora Fountain. Overnight at the hotel.

 Day 2 : Bombay - Cochin

Transfer to the airport in time for flight to Cochin. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel.

Afternoon city sightseeing tour. Cochin, in central Kerala, is a natural harbor created by the famed underwater Malabar mud banks whose quality ensures that the rougher the seas are outside, the calmer the waters are within the harbor. Vasco de Gama visited Cochin, and placed it on the world map. Cochin has a Jewish synagogue, Portuguese churches, mosques, Hindu Temples, The Dutch outpost at Mattanchery and Chinese Fishing Nets. Overnight at the hotel.

 Day 3 : Cochin - Kumarakom

Morning drive to Alleppey (83 km. Approx. 3 hrs drive). On arrival at Alleppey, board ferry for a backwater cruise to Kumarakom. The cruise passes through the rippled calm of picturesque little fishing villages, green shaded backwaters, coconut trees on the shores and through the dense tropical forests. Colorful Snake-Boat races are held here every August. On arrival check-in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

 Day 4 : Kumarakom - Periyar

Morning drive to Periyar (130 km. Approx. 5 hrs drive). On arrival check-in at the hotel.
Afternoon boat cruise on Lake Periyar. Periyar sanctuary was the earliest sanctuary to be set up in 1934. The sanctuary extends to 800 sq. km., and forms a part of the high mountain ranges in the Western Ghats. Wildlife can be seen whilst cruising on Periyar Lake in a motor-boat. Amongst the animals are wild elephants, which can be seen and photographed at close quarters, wild boar, sambar, tiger, leopard, wild dog and langurs (Monkeys). Overnight at the hotel.

 Day 5: Periyar– Madurai

Morning drive to Madurai (146 km, approx. 4 hrs drive). On arrival check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at the hotel

 Day 6 : Madurai

Morning city sightseeing tour. This is another ancient city and was the great capital of the Pandya Kings and centre of Tamil culture and learning 2000 years ago. Today a commercial centre, Madurai is known for the magnificent Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple. Its immense gopurams are crowded with stucco figures of Gods and Goddesses and mythical animals. The temple has numerous mandapas decorated with exquisite sculptures. The thousand pillar hall is a museum that displays temple architecture. Also visit the Tirumalai Nayak Palace built in the Indo-Saracenic style and the Mariamman Tank where a spectacular float festival is
held. Afternoon at leisure.

 Day 7 : Madurai – Trichy

Morning drive to Trichy (128 kms, approx. 3 hrs drive) en-route visiting Tanjore , once the great capital of the Chola Empire. Visit the most spectacular of Tanjore temples, the Brihadeeshwarar, capped by a monolithic cupola made of a single granite rock weighing 80 tons. The temple itself is decorated with carved panels depicting mythological events. An immense Nandi 6 mts long carved out of a single piece of granite, stands in front of the shrine. Also visit Saraswati Mahal Library and Art Gallery with a large collection of Chola bronzes - a unique example of Hindu architecture. On arrival check-in at the hotel Overnight at the hotel.

 Day 8 : Trichy

Morning city sightseeing tour. Trichy, an ancient town in the Kaveri delta was a Chola citadel in 2 B.C. Later the Nayak Kings of Madurai built the magnificent Rock Fort that dominates the city. 437 steps cut out into the rock side and interspersed with shrines, lead to the Vinayaka Temple built at its highest point. The ascent is climaxed by a magnificent view of the sacred Kaveri river. At a lower level along the rock is the Tayumanaswamy temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Later visit Srirangam a massive temple on an island in the cauvery dedicated to Lord Ranganathaswamy. The temple has 21 magnificent gopurams and is adorned with exquisite sculpture.

 Day 9 : Trichy - Madras

Transfer to the airport in time for flight to Madras. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel.

Afternoon city sightseeing tour. Madras is a thriving seaport that did business with the Phoenicians and Babylonians 2000 years ago. The remembered history of Madras goes back to the 4th Century. The Dravidian dynasties of the Pallavas, the Cholas and the Pandyas left their mark on its culture and architecture. Visit the temple of Lord Kapaleeswara, San Thome Church and St. Fort George Museum, the Government Museum and its Bronze Gallery, the High Court, the Snake Park and the flower and fruit market. Overnight at the hotel.


 Day 10 : Madras

Full day excursion to Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram.

MAHABALIPURAM : (65 km and 1½ hrs drive) built in the seventh century, was the second capital and flourishing port of the Pallava Kings (6th to 10th centuries). Now a beach resort, Mahabalipuram is also famous for the seven pagodas. Here on the seashore is an interesting group of ancient rock hewn temples which are the earliest examples of the Dravidian style of architecture. The important ones are the Shore Temple, Five Rathas, Arjuna's Penance, Krishna
Mandapam and Mahishasura Mardhini Mandapam.

KANCHIPURAM : (75 km and approx. 1½ hr drive) the ancient capital of the Pallavas is famous as a city of 1000 Temples and which still has 124 shrines. The first temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was built in the 7th and 8th century and has paintings on the walls. The temples of Ekambaswara, Kailasanatha, Sri Kamakshi and Varadarajaswamy are of great interest. Kanchipuram is also famous for its handloom silks. Overnight at the hotel.


 Day 11 : Madras – Bombay

Airport transfer in time for flight to Bombay.
Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel.

Afternoon at leisure. Optional visit, by motor launch, to the Elephanta caves (the last boat leaves the jetty at 1300 hrs. subject to weather conditions. This tour is also uncertain during the monsoon season from June to August). Elephanta island is the site of a magnificent series of rock-cut cave temples, dating between the 5th to 8th centuries. Overnight at the hotel.

 Day 12 : Bombay
Transfer to the international airport in time for flight to onward destination.
